The 2015 Overseas Housing Allowance Survey is currently available for service members living in private housing overseas.

The survey, which began March 1 and ends March 31, is designed to collect utility and recurring maintenance expenses incurred over the last 12 months. For those living off base, this survey is essential to helping the Department of Defense determine equitable OHA utility rates in overseas areas.

"Only 20 percent of the base population completed the survey so far," said U.S. Air Force 2nd Lt. Jeremy Gegenhuber, 52nd Comptroller Squadron Financial Management flight commander. "It is important for Sabers to participate in this survey because in previous years, it increased the utility allowance for members at Spangdahlem."

To be eligible for the survey, participants should be stationed in Germany for six or more months, reside in privately leased quarters and receive OHA. Homeowners (those who bought a home in Germany) and home sharers (roommates) are not eligible to participate.

According to Gegenhuber, the survey should only take a few minutes to complete. However, participants must have their utility bills, receipts and records of any recurring maintenance costs in order to calculate an accurate monthly average of expenses and help the process go faster.
