An 'RUFit for summer' information fair took place at the Skelton Memorial Fitness Center at Spangdahlem Air Base, Germany, May 8, 2015.

'RUFit' officially rolled out Oct. 1, 2014, across bases in U.S. Air Forces in Europe and Air Forces Africa to focus Airmen on a culture of balanced, holistic health.

Being mentally, physically, socially and spiritually fit may help Airmen, civilians and their families cope with the strain of daily life and recover when challenges are overwhelming. The program Comprehensive Airmen Fitness - another name for RUFit - was created to do just that.

"We're here as a base-wide effort to show Airmen different type of activities as we kick off the summertime," said U.S. Air Force Capt. David Tubman, 52nd Medical Operations Squadron clinical psychologist. "It's a period where people are at higher risks of making mistakes and getting hurt as we all get outside and get active."

Some of the activities featured at the event included a running clinic, massage therapy, alcohol-abuse prevention and nutritional information.

"Watching the police perform their simulated DUI checkpoint was really cool, and we just watched the fire department extricate a dummy from a vehicle, which was awesome and informative," Tubman said. "If you look around the room at all the different agencies that are represented here, this isn't just the medical group, safety or security forces, its everybody together looking at this as something we all join forces in to have a positive impact."

The event was open to all base Airmen, family members and civilians and was declared an alternate-duty location to promote max participation.

"A lot of the things are from all over the base," said U.S. Air Force Col. Lars Hubert, 52nd Fighter Wing vice commander. "It [the RUFit for summer information fair] will give our Airmen the tools and disciplines they need to help make our lives a little better."

Hubert thanked the organizers of the event and highlighted the importance of the information they are bestowing upon 52nd Fighter Wing Airmen.
