As the temperatures drop outside the Eifel Powerhaus Fitness Center, the humid atmosphere inside the massive modern structure increases with the rising of heartbeats as people run through their workouts.

Tucked away in a corner on the basketball court below the track, Airmen are monitored as they run during a running clinic hosted by the health promotions flight and Physical Therapy Clinic Feb. 5, 2016.

"This clinic is being held to improve the running efficiency and reduce the risk of injury for all those who run," said Emily Posadas, a 52nd Aerospace Medicine Squadron health promotion coordinator. "It is mostly geared toward the active duty population, but civilians can also participate."

Posadas said the running clinics are held biannually. However, she hopes with more participation they can be held monthly.

"It is extremely important to me to help Airmen out with their physical fitness," Posadas said. "By reducing rates of injury, we are keeping our force healthy, deployable, and fit to fight."

It's the drive to help ensure Airmen are fit to fight that motivates those involved in the clinic.

"It is my passion and job," said U.S. Air Force Maj. Tisha Sutton, 52nd Medical Operations Squadron medical services flight commander and physical therapist.  "Getting people back to their fitness is what I do and make sure that they are pain free doing it."

Although running may not be someone's favorite activity, Posadas said that she hopes people take away many things from clinics like this including moving correctly while running.

"The most impactful thing I hope that participants take away from this event is gaining the knowledge to help them run correctly, safely, and reduce their risk of overuse injuries," said Posadas.

Sutton added the single greatest resource on this base to learn improvements on running better would be to attend future running clinics. However, if you or someone you know needs help on the areas of physical fitness, you can contact Health Promotions at 452-7385.
