The Spangdahlem Air Base Student Summer Hire Program is accepting applications from youths ages 14-22 interested in finding summer employment.

While summer provides students an opportunity to relax and spend time with friends; it also provides a chance for youth to earn some extra spending money.

"Whether saving for college, a new car, or simply looking for something to do, students of all ages start hitting the pavement looking for decent summer employment well before school ends," said Sandra Sharp Student Summer Hire Program coordinator and Civilian Personnel Fight human resources assistant.

"If you would like to earn some extra money and gain valuable work experience for your future career, try a summer job," she said. "Keep in mind your summer job doesn't have to be directly related to your career aspirations. Many of the skills you acquire through summer employment can be transferred to other areas. Trying a variety of summer jobs will give you valuable experience and may even help you figure out what type of career you want."

The program is hiring two types of positions -- laborers and clerks.

"The laborer positions include working indoors and outdoors, performing light to moderate lifting, basic laborer type duties and/or yard work," Mrs. Sharp said. "The clerical positions include typing, basic computer work, filing, shredding, receptionist duties and customer service.

"Students are encouraged to apply early to maximize their opportunity for placement; the Civilian Personnel Office will place all qualified applicants on a first come first serve basis until the positions are filled," Mrs. Sharp said.

The Spangdahlem AB 2007 Student Summer Hire Program employs approximately 50 youth ages 14-22 from June 25 through Aug. 3. Application materials are available in the Civilian Personnel Office, building 151 on the first floor, or can be requested by e-mailing sandra.sharp@spangdahlem.af.mil. Completed applications must be received by the Civilian Personnel Office no later than May 25.
