Project CHEER brings escape for single, unaccompanied Airmen Published Oct. 5, 2007 By Staff Sgt. Tammie Moore 52nd Fighter Wing Public Affairs SPANGDAHLEM AIR BASE, Germany -- Project CHEER a program aimed at Creating Hope, Energy, Enthusiasm, and Recreation for single and unaccompanied Airmen, which is exactly what the name stands for, kicks off Nov. 1. "I believe that morale, welfare and recreation play a key role in the success of our mission," said John Olson, 52nd Services Squadron marketing director. "Project CHEER provides that little escape of the daily tasks which can cause stress and wear us out. It allows our Airmen to re-fuel and come back to the job with a fresh outlook and positive attitude. Our jobs are important but we need to be able to just have some fun." With the wrap up of Extreme Summer, Project CHEER swings into action with the same Web interaction but includes a focus on group events. "Project CHEER takes things a few steps further than Extreme Summer and provides some great events to participate in such as glow golf, Texas Hold'Em, paintball, Fantasy Football, cosmic bowling and Survivor Challenge," Mr. Olson said. However, unlike Extreme Summer, Project CHEER events are only open to single and unaccompanied Airmen. "We hold local events here on base and the winners get to go to the U.S. Air Forces in Europe finals," Mr. Olson said. "Since we did such a great job last year with our Texas Hold'Em tournaments, USAFE decided to hold the finals right here at Spangdahlem in Club Eifel." With prizes that range from cash giveaways, to pair of Wrestlemania 24 tickets, including hotel and airfare to Orlando, there is sure to be something of interest for everyone. "Simply log onto www.projectcheer.org and register to win beginning Nov. 1," Mr. Olson said. "It's that easy. While at the Web site find something you are interested in, and, as the saying goes, 'just do it' you'll have fun, meet new friends and have the opportunity to win some great prizes." The Project CHEER Web site is still under construction, however, it can be viewed at www.projectcheer.org.
