As Third Air Force approaches its "first" anniversary during this season of giving thanks and appreciation, I'd like to take a moment to express my personal thanks and pride in all you do for our country and our Air Force. Over the past year, 3rd AF has been at the forefront of many of our command's successes, and I have no doubt it's due to our quality of Airmen. We are constantly achieving effects greater than the mathematical sum of our parts because of your determination and dedication to the mission.

Along with the highs, we've experienced some lows in the unfortunate and untimely loss of some of our teammates to mishaps. These mishaps have spanned the range of categories, but the common thread through each event are the actions taken and not taken that could have possibly prevented the mishap. While you enjoy the long weekend, I ask each of you to make smart decisions. You are all valuable members of this team, and as with any awarding winning team, we can ill afford to bend or break anyone. Between your peers, supervisors and a host of other community support, options exist to help get you home safely. Please take advantage of them. We need each of you to return on Monday ready to tackle our next challenge.

Thanksgiving is a great time to give a special thought to those deployed and their families left behind. Whether at home or deployed, I thank each of you for what you do every day for the USAFE team. Happy Thanksgiving Third Air Force.
