Help OSCS bring holiday cheer to dormitory Airmen

The weather is getting colder, the lines at the Base Exchange and post office are getting longer, and that can only mean only one thing ... the holidays are just around the corner.

The holiday season and spending time with family usually go hand-in-hand, but unfortunately many of the Airmen at Spangdahlem will not be spending the holidays with family this year. In fact, for many this will be their first holiday away from home.

To show support for unaccompanied Airmen living in the dorms and let them know how much they are appreciated, each December, the Officers' and Civilians' Spouses' Club pulls the community together to make dozens of homemade cookies. The cookies are then placed into individual gift bags with candy, snacks and a soda and delivered to the dorms.

The OCSC needs help to make this happen. This year the OCSC plans on delivering more than 800 gift bags. In order for each dorm resident to receive at least a dozen home-baked goodies, the OCSC needs to gather close to 10,000 cookies.

To be part of this project and bring a taste of home to their holiday season, whip up a batch of holiday treats. Any home-baked item will be appreciated such as cookies, brownies, desert bars, muffins, fudge, etc. Baked goods can be dropped off Dec. 11 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the E-Lounge. Please wrap any sticky or crumbly items individually to help make assembly of the bags a bit easier. The gift bags will be delivered Dec. 12.
