Happy Holidays Sabers! Published Dec. 18, 2007 By Col. Darryl Roberson 52nd Fighter Wing commander SPANGDAHLEM AIR BASE, Germany -- Cheryl and I want to convey our heartfelt thanks to each of you for the significant role you play in the 52nd Fighter Wing. From maintainers putting jets in the air, pilots flying missions downrange, cooks keeping us fed, the support group keeping us running, medics keeping us healthy, MUNNS personnel maintaining safety and security, to the family members who also serve and sacrifice, the mission of the wing could not be accomplished without each and every one of you. We truly are one team, one fight, ready to answer swiftly, decisively and lethally if called upon. 2007 has been a great year for the 52d, with a lot of excitement and notable successes and as the year comes to a close, it is customary to reflect on a few of our major accomplishments. We've had several deployments supporting OIF, OEF and other locations abroad while completely renovating our runways. The Wing has made tremendous strides in reducing our DUIs. The MMG has successfully passed every higher headquarters inspection. The Medical Group has been involved in Medical Flags around the world providing humanitarian assistance to those in need. We've improved the quality of life base-wide by building the new shoppette complex and opening new lodging facilities, providing comfort to those transiting up and downrange. In addition to organizational accomplishments, Sabers have been recognized individually for their tremendous dedication and service with numerous USAFE Awards and 17 Air Force level winners. What an incredible year it has been! I am continually amazed at the commitment and professionalism of this Wing and am extremely proud to be your commander. As the hustle and bustle of the holidays approaches, remember to take time for yourselves and your families. We are fortunate to live in a beautiful country, surrounded by wonderful neighbors in our German community. I hope that you are able to take advantage of the time off during the holidays to travel and explore Europe. It is also important to be mindful that there are many of us that are separated from the ones we love this holiday. Please keep in mind that the men and women proudly calling themselves Sabers are an extended family. Let's be first-class wingmen and take the time to reach out to one another so that no one is alone this holiday season. As you enjoy yourselves, always remember to be accountable and disciplined in your actions. Let's keep this holiday break a happy occasion by avoiding accidents through responsible choices. As I close, I want to once again thank you. Thank you for your time, energy, and talent. Thank you for what you do for the 52d FW, the Air Force, the United States of America, and our NATO allies. It's an honor and privilege to serve with each of you and I look forward to being a part of the future of the Wing as we continue to "Seek Excellence, Attack our Challenges, and Destroy the Obstacles to our Success." Cheryl and I wish each of you and your families a joyous holiday and pray that the New Year brings health, happiness, success and love to each of your homes. Happy Holidays, Merry Christmas, Frohe Weihnachten and Happy New Year!
