Spangdahlem AB units earn 16 Squadron Level CFC awards Published Jan. 3, 2008 By Staff Sgt. Tammie Moore 52nd Fighter Wing Public Affairs SPANGDAHLEM AIR BASE, Germany -- Members of the Spangdahlem Air Base community generously opened their wallets and checkbooks to make donations to their favorite charities though the Combined Federal Campaign. The CFC was established by President John F. Kennedy to consolidate federal employee fundraising efforts into one campaign. There are currently more than 1,900 organizations that members can donate to through the CFC. These organizations range from charities that benefit veterans to those that provide scholarships for high school students. "Our number one base goal was creating a 100 percent opportunity to give, which we met," said Capt. Holly Kinsey, CFC wing CFC project officer. "We raised a grand total of $197,109." Reaching 100 percent of the base's personnel this year was tricky. "It was a challenge ensuring we were getting the word out to everybody that was eligible to give," Captain Kinsey said. "We had two squadrons that were TDY to the states for the majority of the campaign, so making sure they were also able to participate was not easy." A portion the funds raised will be donated on the base Family and Youth Services Programs. The money that is donated to this program goes to the Youth Center on base and the Airman & Family Readiness Center. The CFC program recognized 16 units on base for their generosity with Squadron Level CFC awards. "We had five gold, two silver, three platinum and six bronze awards," Captain Kinsey said. "This is amazing considering it is established on percentage of participation, or a monetary average amount per person. We also had three squadrons raise more than $10,000; the 703rd Munitions Support Squadron, 52nd Equipment Maintenance Squadron and 52nd Mission Support Squadron. Also, two squadrons raised more than $15,000; the 52nd Logistics Readiness Squadron and 52nd Civil Engineer Squadron." After months of working with the CFC, Captain Kinsey has taken a good feeling away from the experience. "It is rewarding to know that we made a difference," she said. "No matter how much money we raised, we made a difference to something, whether it was here at home station or somewhere else in the world. Thank you! Your generosity has made a big difference, no matter what amount you gave."
