The Spangdahlem Postal Center is looking for volunteers. Because of deployments, under-manning and the time of season, add the transition to shut down the Bitburg post office and 52nd Comm Squadron officials say they need volunteers more than ever.

"We usually only get random volunteers once in a while," said Senior Airman Yana Cline, a postal operations clerk at the Spangdahlem Post Office. Even then, she says they usually only get volunteers during the Christmas season.

The post office currently only has one regular volunteer, Mr. Donald Lee, whose day-to-day activities range from pitching mail to changing the locks on the mail boxes. Airman Cline says every bit of help counts with so much mail.

"Volunteers help us greatly. If they work the window and pitch mail, we can concentrate on processing boxes, if we can just get the help," she said.

Sound like a great volunteer opportunity? Contact them at DSN 452-7195, or just come in and they'll provide training for whatever task the volunteer will be doing. Volunteers are able to come in and work when they can; the post office says the shifts are very flexible.

When asked to give insight into the benefits of volunteering, Mr. Lee said the people he works with are always very grateful that he's there. "It's not uncommon to be in one of the areas in the back and have someone come in and thank you for all your help."
