Bowling begins with Eifel Youth Open

Spangdahlem youth competed with other local U.S. leagues and won 11 out of 20 available scholarships in the Eifel Youth Open bowling tournament, Aug. 16. The scholarships are worth more than $2,000 and was a good way to start off the bowling season which begins Sept. 6, 2008. Anyone from ages 3 to 21 years old can participate during the season.

The final results for Spangdalems youth at the Eifel Open singles event: (only Spangdahlem winners listed)

- Boys 11 and under: 1st place, Micheal Dzitko; 3rd place, Justan Kurtz.
- Boys 12 and over: 1st place Cory Armstrong; 2nd place, Correy Mathews; 3rd place, Ryan Allshouse.
- Girls 12 and over: 2nd place, Samantha Zunker.

The doubles event final standing is:

- 11 and under: 1st place team, Micheal Dzitko and Justan Kurtz.
- 12 and over: 1st place team, Ryan Allshouse and Correy Mathews; 3rd place team, Tain Oian and Cory Armstrong.

The Baker Event teams consist of three bowlers, two kids and one adult. The final results of the event are:

- 1st place team: "The Bowlerz," consisting of Samantha Zunker, Meaghan Schichler, and Brian Schichler.
- 2nd place team: "The Gators," consisting of Cory Armstrong, Correy Mathews, and Travis Ziolkowski.
