ActiPeds not usable in all areas

  • Published
While the ActiPed, an activity-tracking device acquired from the FitLinxx Company and distributed to Sabers, can have a positive impact on attaining one's fitness goals, it is important to note there may be information assurance vulnerabilities associated with the device.

The device releases information using radio frequency techniques. Though this data is sensor-specific, as with all other devices that transmit and receive data such as cellular telephones and personal data assistants, Air Force security policies prohibit the use of these devices within three meters of automated information systems or computers that process classified information.

Until a more thorough analysis of the transmission mechanism integrated into the ActiPed is conducted, the 52nd Fighter Wing Information Assurance Office prohibits wear of these devices around any system or computer processing classified information.
