Upcoming Events Sept. 25: The fitness center will host a Zumba class from 7 to 7 p.m. This is a dance class that combines Latin and international music with dance movements. The cardio-based dance movements are easy to follow, and you don't have to be a dancer to take this class. This class is open the public and all conference attendees. Sept 25-26: Youth programs will hold a pre-teen lock-in sponsored by Keystone from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m. for youth ages 9 to 14 at the Bitburg Youth/Teen Center. The course will review Aerobic and Fitness Association of America Basic Exercise Standards and Guidelines, exercise science and exam criteria, followed by written and practical exams. Sept 26-27: The 2009 U.S. Forces Racquetball Championships will be held at Ramstein Air Base, Germany, at the northside and southside fitness centers. This is a single-elimination tournament with consolidation with the following categories: men's open division; men's B division and men's C division; and women's open and women's novice divisions. Athletes may only register for one division. The tournament is scheduled for two days, but if time permits, it will be completed in one day. Sept. 28: Pass and registration will be closed for training. It will reopen at 8 a.m. Sept. 29. October: The Arts and Crafts Center is hosting an artists and craftsman contest. The categories are painting, any media; drawing and prints, any media; three-dimensional, sculpture, wood, metals, etc.; and general, handcrafted items, kits, molds, etc. The categories will be broken into adult, 18 and older; and youth, 13 to 17 and 12 and under. School bus safety The new school year has arrived, and children need to be educated on the importance of bus stops, school bus and school zone safety. People also need to refresh themselves on their responsibilities when approaching a school bus stop or travel through a school safety zone. Remember to follow the speed limit, never pass a stopped school bus, don't speed through school zones, and keep your eyes open for children. Retiree Activities Office The retiree activities office is now open and located in building 2001, room 201 in the Eifel West (French Concern). The office is open from 11 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. every Friday and by appointment. The purpose of the retiree office is to act as a liaison between the Air Force and retired Air Force members, to help active-duty member's transition to retired status, help solve retiree problems and lobby Congress.
