The Combined Federal Campaign - Overseas will officially begin Oct. 5 and run for nine weeks.

The CFC, which began in the early 1960s, offers people the opportunity to give to a charity of their choice located on the CFC charity list.

According to the CFC-O Web site, the list includes national, international and local organizations that people can choose to donate to.

"The CFC represents an opportunity for Sabers to make a difference in someone's life," said Master Sgt. David Adkins, 52nd Aerospace Medicine Squadron superintendent and 52nd Fighter Wing CFC representative. "There are over 2,000 charities associated with the CFC that provide valuable services to the community, both here at Spangdahlem and in the United States."

There are three options for Sabers to give to a CFC charitable organization. They can pledge the traditional way, using a paper pledge card received from unit representatives. Pledges can be made via the online pledge assistant, which provides an electronic version of the pledge card. People can also use e-Giving, a fully automated option.

Both the online pledge assistant and e-Giving options can be found at http://www.cfcoverseas.org/. From the homepage, these programs can be accessed by clicking on the "Please Give" tab or by clicking on "For Contributors."

"The ultimate goal of the CFC is to contact to each and every Saber so they are given an informed opportunity to give. That entails a unit rep educating each Saber about the CFC, why it is important and the benefits of giving," Sergeant Adkins said.

With so many places that need and so many causes to assist, the opportunities to give are endless. And the reasons people give are as varied as the shapes of snowflakes.

"To me, it's just the right thing to do," Sergeant Adkins said. "The CFC provides me an opportunity to give back to the community in which I live."

The CFC-O, one of two official military charity campaigns, officially ends Dec. 4.
