"Stop & go" between base and Bitburg, drivers encouraged to use A60 Published July 23, 2010 By Iris Reiff 52nd Fighter Wing Public Affairs SPANGDAHLEM AIR BASE, Germany -- Construction on the B-50 between Spangdahlem Air Base and the city of Bitburg will continue until the end of November. People can expect a full closure of the road at various times throughout August. There are presently three construction sites that slow traffic and cause traffic jams, especially during rush hour in the morning and night. About 10,000 vehicles use the B-50 every day. Additional speed limits were set up in several locations along the way, as well as signs that warn drivers to be even more cautious through construction areas. City officials anticipate the B-50 between the base and the city will be safer once construction is completed. German construction authorities recommend vehicle operators take the Autobahn A-60 to get from Bitburg to Spangdahlem or vice versa in order to reduce the traffic burden during busy times.
