Have a spooky good time Published Oct. 7, 2010 By Tech. Sgt Chadwick Kinser 52nd Aerospace Medicine Squadron SPANGDAHLEM AIR BASE, Germany -- The fall season is upon us as leaves change color and fall from trees. The temperatures are starting to dip lower, as people pull out their coats, hats and gloves. You only have to walk through the commissary or base exchange and view all the black and orange decorations to see that it is October - almost Halloween. Halloween is the time of year when we have an opportunity to showcase our theatrical talents or creative sides. Children are not the only ones who get into the spirit of the season. Adults often dress up and transform into something or someone scary or mysterious for the night. Some people choose to be spooks and goblins, presidents, celebrities or original creations that show off the humorous side of their personality. The 52nd Fighter Wing sponsors a haunted house every year for Halloween, and this year is no different. The 2010 Haunted House Committee representatives from the 52nd Medical Group, 52nd Communications Squadron and 52nd Civil Engineer Squadron are working hard to make this year's event the best ever. The haunted house will be located at the French Caserne, Bldg. 2031 on the Bitburg Annex, from Oct. 28-30. Opening night is only available to military members and their dependents to walk through and have the wits scared out of them. The remaining evenings will open to the general public with the 52nd Security Forces Squadron providing security. For an admission cost of $5 for adults and $3 for children under the age of 13, patrons can expect ghosts, clowns, werewolves, zombies and various other ghostly freaks to get your heart racing and make you scream. Doors open at 5 p.m. all nights of operation, providing younger children an opportunity to walk through with the lights on. It is not as frightening and the characters hand out candy. The house goes dark at 6 p.m. when the real terror begins. It closes at midnight. Lines form quickly, but booths manned by participating base organizations supply warm and delicious Halloween treats to enjoy while waiting. The proceeds for the haunted house help offset costs for morale functions throughout the entire year, so come out and support the Haunted House and have a whole lot of fun in the process.
