Honor guard looks to recruit Published Jan. 19, 2011 By Staff Sgt. Louis Dymon Base Honor Guard SPANGDAHLEM AIR BASE, Germany -- The 52nd Fighter Wing Base Honor Guard is looking for highly-motivated individuals to become a part of the elite team of ceremonial guardsmen. The 52nd FW BHG mission is to provide ceremonial funeral honors for all active-duty members, veterans and retirees of the Air Force and Army Air Corps. Our area of responsibility includes Northern Germany, Belgium, The Netherlands, Luxembourg and France. Additionally, the Honor Guard supports a wide variety of base and community functions including changes of command, retirement ceremonies, community parades and weddings. The BHG asks that applicants have at least 12 months left on station to honor the contractual commitment. The application can be found at https://ice.usafe.af.mil/sites/52FW/honorguard/default.aspx. Training is held at Bldg. 160, the old Jet blast by the control tower, every Wednesday at 3 p.m. Our next training flight will be Jan. 24 - Feb. 4. Being on the BHG has benefits abound. Members are pieces of the puzzle of an important team; and, "honor with dignity." Upon completion of training, the BHG will provide members with a ceremonial uniform, which is significantly different than a regular service dress. BHG members are permitted to wear a ceremonial badge with both uniforms, distinguishing them as ceremonial guardsmen. Prospects to travel, meet host nation supporters and perform in unique details are plentiful. Another benefit is the opportunity to be selected for BHG quarterly and annual awards and even the consideration for an Air Force Achievement Medal. For more information or questions, please stop by the BHG, in Bldg. 160, to see firsthand what we do or send an email to the 52 FW/Honor Guard inbox. We look forward to having you on our team!
