A-10 crash site secured Published April 1, 2011 52nd Fighter Wing Public Affairs SPANGDAHLEM AIR BASE, Germany -- The site where an Air Force A-10 Thunderbolt II crashed today near Laufeld, Germany has been secured. The 52nd Fighter Wing regularly practices incident response. The American On-Scene Commander has been specifically trained to handle this situation and prevent any further mishaps. He has used this training to direct the securing of the crash site outside of Laufeld. The cooperation from our German neighbors has been excellent. The German responders who were first on the scene did an outstanding job, and so did the medical personnel who quickly transported the pilot to a local hospital. "It's times like these where you can really see the power of our German-American friendship in action," said the 52d Fighter Wing Commander, Colonel Christopher P. Weggeman. The pilot is in good condition and is currently at a local hospital receiving medical care. His name is not being released until his family has been notified.
