Memorial planned for deceased Airman Published April 11, 2011 SPANGDAHLEM AIR BASE, Germany -- A 24-year-old airman first class from the 52nd Civil Engineer Squadron was pronounced dead at approximately 2:30 a.m. April 10 at a local hospital. Airman 1st Class Jamie Korrek was found incoherent and unresponsive by higher-ranking servicemembers conducting a no-notice dormitory inspection April 7. The Airman was rushed to a local hospital where his condition worsened. The Airman's parents were notified of their son's condition immediately, and wing personnel aided in coordinating their expeditious arrival into Germany. "Losing a member of our Saber family is a tragedy," said Col. Christopher Weggeman, 52nd Fighter Wing commander. "My most heartfelt condolences go out to Airman Korrek's family, friends and co-workers." A memorial for Airman Korrek is scheduled for 3 p.m. April 13 at the base theater.
