Operation Warmheart Softball Tournament Published May 27, 2011 By Airman 1st Class Brittney Frees 52nd Fighter Wing Public Affairs SPANGDAHLEM AIR BASE, Germany -- The Spangdahlem First Sergeants' Council is sponsoring a softball tournament June 17-19 here to raise money for Operation Warmheart. Operation Warmheart is a fund the first sergeants' council uses to help Airmen who are in financial need. "The money from Operation Warmheart is distributed at the discretion of the first sergeants council," said Master Sgt. Paul Connelly, 52nd Medical Group first sergeant. "It can be used for groceries, bills and an assortment of other things. This is also how the first sergeants pay for the holiday food baskets that are given out every year to younger Airmen with families." There can be a total of 16 teams with eight or more players per team. There are no limitations to the make-up of the team -- whoever wants to play can play. The tournament will be double elimination and played at the Spangdahlem softball fields. "This softball tournament is a great opportunity to let off some steam, have fun, build camaraderie and raise money that will directly impact Airmen and their families," Sergeant Connelly said. "It is all about Saber Airmen taking care of Saber Airmen." The entry fee is $125 per team, and teams must sign up before June 16. To sign up for the softball tournament call DSN 452-5186 or 452-8880.
