Name: Airman 1st Class Tyler P. Van Wyk

Unit: 52nd Operations Group

Duty title: Knowledge operations apprentice

Hometown: Cocoa Beach, Fla.

Years in Service: One year

Why joined: I joined with the goal of improving not only my formal education, but my life skills, so that I may better myself for the rest of my life.

Family: In my family I have my mom and dad, Colleen and Paul Van Wyk; mother-in-law, Lynn; sister-in-law, Kim; and brother, Keegan. Keegan is currently training at Keesler Air Force Base, Miss., to become an avionics technician.

Hobbies: My interests include hiking, camping, fishing, playing computer games and reading.

Favorite aspect of job: My favorite part of my job is when someone calls or emails me back just to say, "Thank you." That makes me think that I did a good job.

Most memorable Air Force experience: My most memorable experience in the Air Force so far is the two months I spent in basic training. The experiences I had there and the people I shared them with will be fresh in my mind for a long time.

How do you make responsible choices: Before making a decision, I always think about the possible consequences, and never get myself in a position where I cannot do so.
