Spangdahlem Air Base welcomed in the 2021 Air Force Assistance Fund Campaign with a kickoff event March 14 at the Wing Pavilion.

The event, which offered up food and activities for a socially-distanced group of people here, was part of the annual charity fundraising program designed for members of the Air Force community.

“I’m donating because when I was a senior airman, AFAF helped me prevent a financial crisis after I came back from deployment and didn’t get BAH [basic allowance for housing] for three months,” said Capt. Milagros Gargurevich, a clinical psychologist from the 52nd Health Care Operations Squadron and installation project officer for this year’s AFAF campaign. “I looked for loans off base, and they wanted to charge me 21-25% interest. AFAF gave me a zero interest loan until my pay got worked out again. I donate now so fellow Airmen can have that same financial support if they ever need it.”

AFAF supports active-duty, eligible Air National Guard and Reserve Airmen, retirees, spouses, immediate family members and surviving family members of deceased retirees.

This year, the program is slated to run from March 15 to April 23, and the Spangdahlem’s donation goal for 2021 is $56,582.
