Explore the Eifel 2016 Tours

SPANGDAHLEM AIR BASE, Germany -- The following events throughout May, June and July comprise the 12th annual Explore the Eifel adventure tours. Interested participants can sign up by e-mailing Spangdahlem's community relations office at 52fw.cra@us.af.mil or calling DSN: 452-6434 or 0656561-6434.

Important notes: Seats are limited to these tours, which may involve transportation costs (10 Euro for adults and five Euro for children), unless otherwise stated. Bus seats are offered on a "first come, first serve" basis.

ETE Tour 1
Saturday, May 7 - 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. - Host Nation Council's Spangdahlem Fun Hike to Himmerod and Abbey Tour
This is a 7 miles hike through the forest. A break with refreshments is planned half way. A guided tour of the abbey is scheduled, and free transportation from the abbey to the base is planned. The tour will start is the main gate at 9 a.m. with Spangdahlem mayor Klaus Rodens. This event is sponsored by the Host Nation Council

ETE Tour 2
Saturday, May 7 - 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. - Landscheid-Niederkail - Forest Community Walk with Barbecue
A mountain bike ride is simultaneously planned for anyone interested. A stop at a small museum, the Peter Zirbes Haus, is planned.
The tour will meet at the Kailbachtall community hall parking lot at 10 a.m. This event is sponsored by the cultural society of Landscheid-Niederkail
There is a 6 Euro cost for the barbecue with beverages.

ETE Tour 3
Saturday, May 7 - 3-5 p.m. - Traben-Trarbach Adventure Park
This event is a free rope climbing for a maximum of 15 people.

ETE Tour 4
Saturday, May 14 - 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sebastiani Winery Trittenheim
The Sebastiani Winery in Trittenheim is offering a walk to the vineyards with a panoramic view of the Mosel valley, followed by a wine tasting at the winery.

ETE Tour 5
Thursday, May 19 - 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Geocashing GPS- guided Hike/Walking Tour with Barbeque
Experience bizarre rock formation landscapes and forest area, find your destination with other base members in four small groups and enjoy a joint barbecue afterwards.
Duration of GPS exploring tour is about 2.5 hrs. The meeting point will be the Ernzen Naturpark (nature park center), parking lot at 2 p.m.
There is a 6 Euro cost (for adults) and 4 Euros (for children) for the barbecue, which is at 5 p.m.

ETE Tour 6
Friday, May 20 - 2-6 p.m. - Sauer River Excursion in Diekirch
Walk through beautiful nature along the Saur River, past rock formations and an old stone monument. Then get to know the Diekirch pedestrian area - enjoy shopping, restaurants and a museum (optional).
The meeting point will be Cactus Shopping Center, Ingeldorf, at 4 rte d'Ettelbrueck, 9160 Ingeldorf (shopping market entrance area).

ETE Tour 7
Sunday, June 12 - 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. - Motorcycle Tour Along the Mosel with Dinner
Refreshments will be served on the way, and the event ends with a dinner in the Mosel town of Schweich. A motorcycle is required for this event.
Sponsored by Binsfeld honorary commanders.

Friday, June 17 - 2-6 p.m. - Vianden City and Castle Tour
Enjoy the beautiful Ourtal valley and an orientation tour of the Vianden area, as well as a visit the Vianden castle (optional).

Learn and see how the Bitburg brewery operates and sample beer.

Saturday and Sunday, July 2-3, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. - Apiary Open House
Learn how to keep bees and enjoy seeing what bees produce and how honey gets into the glass. Visit on your own.
