Kappenmacher? Koppeemachiner? Karaokesitting?

What IS Kappensitzung... if that is how you say it?

The first-ever Saber Kappensitzung [pronounced "Kap-pin-sit-zoong"] will take place Feb. 28 at Club Eifel starting at 7:11 p.m.

Kappensitzung is a traditional German celebration during Fasching - another German holiday (somewhat like Halloween in America) for the end of spring - with an evening of special guests from the local community, comedy, music and dancing.

"People can expect to learn what Kappensitzung is," said Kevin Hacker, 52nd Force Support Squadron Club Eifel operations manager and Kappensitzung president. "They can expect a first-class event and to have a good time."

And like Halloween, people attending the event are highly encouraged to wear costumes.

Jarrod Garceau, 52nd FSS Club Eifel programmer, said the event will allow Americans to experience some of the many cultural events and traditions Germany has to offer.

"This is a good introduction [to Fasching] because a lot people first getting here don't know what it is," Garceau said. "Some people are also afraid to go off base, afraid to get into the culture and afraid to speak the language."

There are a limited number of tickets available. For more information, head over to Club Eifel or call at 452-4633
