Name: Staff Sgt. Sophia Williams

Unit: 52nd Maintenance Group

Duty title: 480th Aircraft Maintenance Unit scheduler

Hometown: New York

Years in Service: Eight years

Why joined: I wanted to be an aviation engineer and surround myself with aircraft.

Family: Husband, DeLorion L. Williams; daughter, Reina D. Williams; brother, Joel A. Valera; and dog, Bonnie T. Williams

Hobbies: Family time and shopping

Favorite aspect of job: Managing the explosive and life-sustaining components on fighter aircraft. It makes me proud to know I am responsible for such a critical program.

Most memorable Air Force experience: When I was an airman 1st class, I had the honor to be the proffer at a chief master sergeant retirement ceremony. I provided the pin as a thank you for the chief's years of service. The ceremony epitomized the Air Force and its core values and validated my patriotism.

How do you make responsible choices: I argue with myself (healthy, of course) and bounce ideas off my husband who listens and provides feedback.
