KLEINE BROGEL AIR BASE, Belgium -- The 701st Munitions Support Squadron (MUNSS) hosted and dominated the 2023 MUNSS Olympics Aug. 4-5, inviting 52nd Fighter Wing geographically separated units for friendly competition, bragging rights and esprit de corps.
When the dust settled, the 701st MUNNS walked away as the overall victors, while the 704th MUNNS from Ghedi Air Base, Italy, earned the Spirit Award.
“I really like what Kleine Brogel did here, and I love how competition brings out camaraderie,” said Col. Michael Donahue, 52nd Munitions Maintenance Group commander, during the closing ceremony. “It was a wonderful time, and next year will be even better!”
Participating GSUs traveled in from the Netherlands, Italy and Germany, sending their biggest and brightest to challenge the physical and mental limits of today’s warfighting Airmen.
The events began with a torch-lighting ceremony with over 100 Airmen and families in attendance to participate and give support to the athletes from their respective squadrons. The first day included football, tug-of-war, soccer and kickball, and the second day wrapped up the event with basketball, dodgeball, cornhole and jeopardy.
“This event is absolutely electric, and I am so proud to be a part of this community,” said Senior Airman Douglas Anderson, 701st MUNSS custody forces member.
The MUNSS Olympics will continue to rotate across the continent to carry on the annual tradition of broadening and enriching the communities for the Airmen and families.
