'Africa's Big Circus' performs in Bitburg this weekend

SPANGDAHLEM AIR BASE, Germany --  "Africa's Big Circus" is touring Europe and making a stop in Bitburg to perform shows Aug. 24 - 27.

The theme of the circus is "The Magic of the Jungle," which features African acrobatic, animal and entertainment for young and old in a circus tent located near the Bitburg ice rink.

The circus has international artists and employs 100 people. The liliputian "Goliad" plays a key role as the jungle king who performs a spectacular fire act.

Indian and African elephants will be in the manege where an elephant Fussball game draw visitors and set people into the circus mood. To add to the atmosphere, clowns entertain with fun acts. In addition, there will be trained horses in show, trapez artists, giant snakes and high-rope dancing.

Spangdahlem Air Base members are especially welcome at our circus, according to Mr. Weisheit, a circus manager.

Shows are scheduled Aug. 24 at 7 p.m., Aug. 25 at 3 and 7 p.m., Aug. 26 at 11 and 3 p.m., and Aug. 27 at 3 p.m. The last show is a family show and tickets are 8 Euros, except for seats closest to the stage, called "Loge" seats.

More than 1,500 people will be able to find seats in the air-conditioned tent. Snacks and refreshments will be available for purchase.

Tickets can be obtained by calling 0175-33330-20 or from 11 a.m. to noon at the circus cashier. U.S. military members will receive a discount when presenting a valid ID card.
