SPMS students excel on TerraNova tests Published Nov. 2, 2007 By Spangdahlem Middle School SPANGDAHLEM AIR BASE, Germany -- The results are in and Spangdahlem Middle School has plenty to celebrate with the 2007 student TerraNova scores. In the five-year plan started in 2006, Dr. Joseph Tofoya, Department of Defense Education Activity director, announced a goal that Department of Defense Dependents School-Europe schools would have more than 75 percent of their students scoring in the top two quartiles in each area and each grade level on the TerraNova standardized tests by 2011. SPMS students managed to reach that goal in the first year. While nationally only 50 percent of students score this high, more than 75 percent of SPMS students did. In addition, SPMS had at least 10 percent more than the expected 25 percent of students scoring in the very top quartile in each area and grade level, and in several cases double that with more than 50 percent of SPMS students scoring that high. Dr. Tofoya also announced the goal that less than 10 percent of DoDDs students would fall in the bottom quartile on the TerrNova. Once again, SPMS achieved the goal in the first year. In all areas, less than 10 percent of SPMS students performed as poorly as 25 percent of students nationally. Congratulations to the students at SPMS who helped the school reach and exceed these standards.
