The new privately owned vehicle and large vehicle inspection station gates at Spangdahlem opened with a ribbon cutting ceremony officiated by Col. Lee Wight, 52nd Fighter Wing commander, June 17, 2008.

"We were able to construct a gatehouse and two small guardhouses, a canopy, a guardhouse, a new barrier and a new checkpoint system that requires fewer personnel to staff," said Terry Bautista, Army Corps of Engineers chief of engineering and construction. "Plus, we now have new utilities, a new road, new parking areas and better anti-terrorism and force protection measures."

The project cost $6.1 million and took 19 months to complete.

"Numerous cameras installed throughout the facility ensure every vehicle is completely inspected," said Master Sgt. Todd Nappe, event narrator from the 52nd Security Forces Squadron.

The hours of operation for the LVIS gate are Monday through Friday, 6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., closed weekends and German holidays. The POV entry gate will be open Monday through Friday, 6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., and closed weekends, down days and American holidays. Base passes can be obtained at the new gates.
