Memorial Service announcement Published Oct. 14, 2008 SPANGDAHLEM AIR BASE, Germany -- A memorial service was held Oct. 8 at the 52nd Fighter Wing Chapel at Spangdahlem Air Base in memoriam of Tech. Sgt. Clayton D. Edwards of the 52nd Equipment Maintenance Squadron. Sergeant Edwards was born in Smithfield, Va., Oct. 27, 1974, and graduated from Smithfield High School in 1992. He enjoyed watching movies, playing soccer, and was a 10th degree black belt in Karate. He was an avid gamer who was also referred to as a video game pro. Sergeant Edwards is survived by his spouse, Meltem, and stepchildren Pinar and Can, his parents Ernest and Carrie Edwards, and his siblings Ernest Edwards Jr., Lt. Col. Janice Edwards-Smith, U.S. Army retired, Angelia Edwards, Master Sgt. Jason Edwards, U.S. Army, Maj. Rodney Edwards, U.S. Marine Corps, and Lesley Edwards. His assignments include from November 1992-September 1994 Hill Air Force Base, Utah; September 1994-February 1997 Langley AFB, Va., February 1997-February 1998 Osan Air Base, Republic of Korea; March 1998-May 2003 Langley AFB, Va., and June 2003-October 2008 Spangdahlem AB, Germany. Awards and decorations include Air Force Commendation Medal, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award with Valor (five) devices, Air Force Good Conduct Medal (four) devices, National Defense Service Medal (one device), Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Southwest Asia Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Korean Defense Service Medal, Air Force Overseas Ribbon Short, Air Force Overseas Ribbon Long, Air Force Longevity Service (two) devices, U.S. Air Force NCO PME Graduate Ribbon, and Air Force Training Ribbon.
