Guidance for talking politics Published Oct. 20, 2008 SPANGDAHLEM AIR BASE, Germany -- With the presidential election growing nearer, it's important to remember how we as servicemembers talk about politics. We put on this uniform every day to ensure every American has the freedom to speak their mind - this includes you. However, if you choose to speak to the media or anyone about your political beliefs, you cannot be in uniform and you must clarify that you are speaking from a personal perspective - not representing the U.S. Air Force or Department of Defense. This is in accordance with Air Force Instruction 51-902, "Political Activities by Members of the US Air Force." Your views are important, but they should remain your own - not those of the Air Force.
