Meeting new people and making that transition to a new place can be tough, let alone trying to find a job. A new atmosphere with new people can be overwhelming, but thanks to the Airmen & Family Readiness Center, you no longer have to feel a sense of loss or helplessness as consultants can help with a variety of issues, including job hunting.

Since May 2006, the A&FRC has been hosting a program called the ABC's of Employment. This program was developed when the center started changing one-on-one appointments to a group setting. It allows people to network and meet others in similar circumstances. It was specifically created to target military spouses, but is open to everyone interested within the Eifel community.

"This program provides the people of Spangdahlem Air Base, Germany, with information on employment, education and volunteering," said Mrs. Shonte Gonzalez, A&FRC community readiness consultant.

The goal for this class is to educate participants and assist them with staying on track with their career goals by informing them of job opportunities that exist in the Eifel community.

"We go over work, volunteer and school topics and have an open discussion where the students can ask questions," Mrs. Gonzalez said.

During the class, students are introduced to a select group of agencies that offer incentives other than employment, such as going back to school. The Civilian Personnel Office and Non-Appropriated Funds representatives provide answers and a look at volunteer opportunities on base.

"This class has been very successful," Mrs. Gonzalez said. "Spouses have an opportunity to meet others in their situation while learning about the options in the community."

The program is open to all Airmen and their dependents. There are no specific requirements to take the class. It's held the first Thursday of every month from 1 to 2:30 p.m. in the A&FRC, building 307. Personnel will provide information regarding job openings and help with the steps to apply for that job. For more information or to sign up, call the A&FRC at DNS 452-6422 or 06565-61-6422.
