Wing commander sends holiday greeting Published Dec. 1, 2008 By Col. Tip Wight 52nd Fighter Wing commander SPANGDAHLEM AIR BASE, Germany -- Happy holidays, Sabers! During this festive season, I encourage each and every one of you to take the time to relax, enjoy the seasonal celebrations with your loved ones and reflect upon the accomplishments you, the wing and our families have achieved this year. While there are still many goals ahead, it is important to take a moment to reflect on our successes - whether that is on our daily missions, higher headquarters inspections, our stunningly-effective deployed combat operations or the strong fabric of the Saber families. I would like to thank each of you for your dedicated service. It is your professionalism and self-sacrifice that keep the Sabers on the leading edge of the world's most respected air, space and cyber space force. I admire your drive to continue the fight for our freedom and your part in the Global War on Terrorism. Your family, friends and fellow Americans back home also appreciate all you do for your country and our allies. This is our first winter holiday season in the Eifel region and what a great place to share the warmth of the German holiday traditions! Concerts, food and Christmas markets are just a few of the local traditions you can partake in to expand your cultural horizons. Moreover, this is a great way to interact with our host nation partners and, at the same time, represent all that is good about America. While enjoying all this holiday cheer, it is vital that we do so by making responsible CORE choices and ensuring we are all ready to return to work rested and prepared for the challenges ahead - not degrading our combat capability through preventable mishaps. The health and well-being of each member of our Saber family is one of my top priorities - I know I can count on you to be good wingmen and take care of each other so we all can experience the joy of the season, not the heartbreak of an accident. Thanks again for all you do every day for our great nation and its partners. Mara and I are honored to work and live side by side with you, and I am continually humbled by your efforts. May God bless each and every one of you in your own way. Happy holidays Sabers, and best wishes for a healthy, productive and prosperous new year.
