Sabers without a car don't have to rely on the kindness of co-workers or neighbors and they don't have to hoof their way to work either. The base shuttle bus runs weekdays from 5:27 a.m. through 10:49 p.m., stopping at more than 15 locations across the base.

One of the best features of the shuttle bus program, says Master Sgt. Michael Powers, 52nd Logistics Readiness Squadron vehicle operations supervisor, is that it is free.

Rebecca Shattuck, wife of Staff Sgt. Jared Shattuck, 52nd Component Maintenance Squadron, said she believes the base shuttle bus is a great service. Mrs. Shattuck and her family of five ride the bus about twice a day while they are waiting on the vehicle they shipped to arrive here.

"We just moved into housing about a week ago," she said. "If we did not have the shuttle, I don't know what we would do."

Sergeant Powers encourages other Sabers to follow in the Shattuck's footsteps.

"Please use the service or we may end up losing the (shuttle) for lack of ridership," he said.

The shuttle bus service can be used by military personnel, Department of Defense civilians, contractor employees and dependants.

Children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult, Sergeant Powers said. After curfew, youths must also be accompanied by an adult. Passengers 12 and older riding the bus are required to carry their military dependant ID card with them.

Shuttle bus departure times are approximate and can be delayed by inclement weather, traffic, road conditions and other unforeseen circumstances. A copy of the Spangdahlem Shuttle Bus schedule is available online at www.spangdahlem.af.mil on the right hand side of the page under Customer Service Links.

"Each shuttle operator has Shuttle Bus Surveys to fill out, so please feel free to fill one out," Sergeant Powers said. "If you don't have time to fill one out feel free to call our dispatch office. If the phone is busy at the time of your call, please keep trying."

There is also a shuttle service on base that travels to Bitburg Annex. For information about the Bitburg shuttle schedule or other shuttle information, call 452-6645, 452-6715, 06565-61-6645 or 06565-61-6715.
