Raising a child alone is not an easy task, but knowing you're not alone can be the boost a single parent needs when juggling play dates, school plays and military deployments.

The Spangdahlem Single Parents Network serves as a connection for other single parents who play the role of both "mom and dad."

"The group gives parents a chance to meet, relax, have some food, talking about ourselves and our kids and whatever else may come up," said Tech. Sgt Manuel Feliciano, 52nd Communications Squadron client services technician supervisor.

The group meets once a month at the Airman & Family Readiness Center where lunch is provided. The next meeting is from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. March 11.

"It's a great way to meet other single parents who understand on a different level what you may have experienced or what you may be going through," said Kari Merski, A&FRC community readiness consultant. "We also plan meetings based on the interests of the parents. We have had guest speakers talk about budgeting, discipline, stress, setting goals, ect."

The group also gathers outside of meetings for trips and holidays for activities like bowling and swimming.

"It is not easy being a single parent, so when you meet with other people in the same situation, you can trade ideas and ways of dealing with issues," Sergeant Feliciano said. "You make connections if you need help with anything."
