A&FRC honors volunteers Published April 27, 2009 By Amy Smith Airman & Family Readiness Center SPANGDAHLEM AIR BASE, Germany -- The Airman & Family Readiness Center recognized volunteers from across the base April 22, 2009. More than 130 Sabers attended the "I Scream, You Scream, We All Scream ... Thanks To Our Volunteers" ceremony to highlight volunteer efforts and the base volunteers of the year. The American Red Cross recognized three outstanding volunteers in two award categories. The Health and Safety Commendation award was presented to volunteers who demonstrated exemplary commitment to the core values of Health and Safety Services with a focus on service delivery. The award recipients were Kimberly Cooper and James Wrede for their leadership and commitment to the American Red Cross mission. The Service to Armed Forces Award was presented to Keyra Elmo for her volunteer achievements. She demonstrated exceptional initiative in identifying and meeting the Service to the Armed Forces mission. Her extraordinary efforts helped meet the needs of deploying, transiting and returning servicemembers. The Angel Award recognized volunteers who were enthusiastically engaged in community service and provided selfless contributions, enhancing the quality of life in our Saber community. The four Angel Award recipients were Staci Lueth, Renee Evans, Elizabeth Pindel and Janet Saylor. The Youth Excellence Award was presented in two categories, youth younger than 13 and youth older than 14. These award categories recognized students who have taken the initiative to involve him or herself in the Saber community. The Youth Excellence Award recipient for the 13 and younger category was Tela Smith. The Youth Excellence Award recipient for the 14 and older category was Megan Haas. The Volunteer Leadership Award recognized an individual whose commitment and dedication had a positive impact on the quality of life of youth and on our community as a whole. The Diversity Award recognized an individual who actively volunteered time and energy to several organizations and agencies. The Volunteer Leadership Award recipient was Griffith Hemphill and the Diversity Award recipient was Jeffrey Grove. The Saber Team Award went to a group of people who continuously volunteered their time and efforts to improve the 52nd Fighter Wing making it a better place to live, work and play. The Saber Team Award recipient was the 606th Air Control Squadron Spouses Group. The Volunteer Excellence Award recognized exceptional individuals who volunteered with an agency or organization in a sustained, direct and consequential nature. The VEA is a lifetime achievement award from the Chief of Staff of the Air Force. The four Volunteer Excellence Award recipients were Keyra Elmo, Elizabeth Pindel, Janet Saylor and Linsha Wingate. The A&FRC would like to thank all of those who came out to support the volunteers as well as the volunteers who help make the base a better place.
