Sabers to receive anonymous SAFER survey Published Sept. 14, 2009 By Master Sgt. Kelley J. Stewart 52nd Fighter Wing Public Affairs SPANGDAHLEM AIR BASE, Germany -- Sabers from E-1 to O-6 will receive an electronic survey from the Saber Airmen Focused on Excellence and Responsibility this week. The survey was developed by SAFER squadron representatives and the group's advisors. "At one of our first meetings, we brainstormed and developed questions that should shed some light on the root causes of why alcohol related occurrences and alcohol related incidents happen and based the survey on that," said Capt. Brian Scozzaro, 52nd Equipment Maintenance Squadron and SAFER deputy. The survey will be sent out via e-mail, and all people have to do is click on the link. "It shouldn't take more than five minutes of your time," the captain said. The survey was designed to help SAFER determine behaviors that lead Airmen to getting AROs or driving under the influence. The more responses SAFER gets, the more strategies it can develop to help reduce AROs and DUIs. "The great thing about the survey is it's completely anonymous so anyone can provide their input," Capt. Scozzaro said. "I guarantee there are more than a few people assigned to Spangdahlem who have good recommendations that can be implemented and will be effective in combating AROs and DUIs." An exact date for completing the survey hasn't been determined yet, but the captain thinks Sabers should have about three weeks to get it done. Airmen are asked to take this survey seriously and to think about their responses. "The more accurate information we receive the better equipped we are to develop potential strategies that would serve to reduce the amount of alcohol related incidents Spangdahlem has been experiencing," Capt. Scozzaro said. It should take about two weeks for the surveys to be analyzed and results released to the base. "I strongly encourage everyone to take the survey and provide their honest feedback," the captain said. "If anyone has been waiting for the opportunity to let their thoughts be heard regarding this subject, the time has come." SAFER is a task force established at the request of Col. Tip Wight, 52nd Fighter Wing commander. The group's overall objective is to encourage Airmen to focus on values that make them an asset to their unit, the base and the U.S. Air Force.
