Spangdahlem Blood Drive: Give a pint

There will be a Spangdahlem Community Blood Drive 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. Dec. 2 at the Spangdahlem Community Center.

To make an appointment and register with the Armed Services Blood Program, go to www.militarylifeforce.com and click on "Landstuhl." Donors will receive incentive gifts.

The following is information to take into consideration before donating:

If you had a tattoo in any of the following states, you may be able to donate blood one week after acquiring the tattoo.

Alabama
Alaska
Arkansas
Delaware
Hawaii
Iowa
Kansas
Louisiana
Maine
Missouri
Nebraska
Oklahoma
Rhode Island
South Carolina
Tennessee
Texas
Vermont
Virginia
West Virginia
Wisconsin

All states not listed will be a one-year deferment for donating blood to the ASBP from the date the tattoo was acquired. Tattoos acquired outside of the U.S. are also a one-year deferral.

You will not be able to donate blood if you:
- have a cold, flu or fever; have had acupuncture in the past 12 months
- weigh less than 110 pounds
- traveled to Iraq, Eastern Turkey, Afghanistan or western provinces of Saudi Arabia (excluding the high altitude areas of Asir Province and the urban areas of Jeddah, Mecca, Medina, Riyadh, and Taif/ Prince Sultan Airbase) in the last year
- traveled to South Korea and were north of Seoul at any time within the last two years
- spent three months or more in the United Kingdom from 1980-1996
- spent six months or more at a military installation in Europe from 1980-1996
- lived in Europe for five years or more since Jan. 1, 1980 (Except in the UK after Dec. 31, 1996)
- have had hepatitis after your 11th birthday.
- have HIV, or ever tested positive for HIV
- are pregnant or have been pregnant in the last six weeks

In order to donate blood, you must also know the name of any medications taken in the past four weeks, any immunizations administered in the past four weeks, and every place you have been outside of the U.S. or Canada since 1980.
