In Germany, the holidays are a time for friends and families. Family members sit together, sing, exchange gifts, light candles, enjoy homemade cookies, listen to music or enjoy a good television show.

Prior to Christmas, most people attend Christmas markets, Advent bazaars, concerts or a Christmas show. Below are a few events taking place locally before Christmas:

A classical music choir performance by the Vienna Boys' Choir is scheduled for 8 p.m. Dec. 11 at the Bitburg city hall.

The U.S. Air Forces in Europe Band will perform a Christmas concert 8 p.m. Dec. 12 at the Bitburg city hall.

The Gypsy Christmas Django Reinhardt band will perform a concert Dec. 12 at the Trier Variete Chat Noir located on Kornmarkt.

-The German-American Society of Trier, in conjunction with the city of Trier and the Host Nation Council, invite Sabers who reside in the Trier area to a small German-American get-together at the market. If you are interested in attending the event, contact the 52nd Fighter Wing Community Relations Office at 452-7161 or e-mail 52FW/CRA@spangdahlem.af.mil for details.

Trier City officials invite Spangdahlem members to a German-American gathering in Trier Dec. 17. The USAFE Brass Band will perform 5 - 6 p.m. at the Christmas market.

Trier will also host the annual Christmas Moments "Holy Night" meets "Last Christmas" show again this year. Thomas Schwab and his 24-person ensemble will perform 8 p.m. Dec. 23 at the Trier Arena hall. On schedule are German and American Christmas songs, gospel, pop and classical performances, all presented in a modern show with special video and light effects. -For people who would like to enjoy the concert but cannot make it to Trier Dec. 23, there are additional concerts scheduled at other locations now until Dec. 23. Go to www.christmas-moments.de.

The ancient Roman city of Trier will become the site for a Christmas Circus at the city's Moselauen fairgrounds Dec. 18 - Jan. 3. The circus offers shows for children and adults, featuring acrobatic acts, clowns, animals and much more. Santa Claus will celebrate with the circus visitors during a holiday party show.
