The community of Herforst will celebrate the town's 750th anniversary Sept. 16-18 with a huge festival.

Herforst has about 1,300 inhabitants. It's a neighboring community of the base, and many base members live in Herforst. The Herforst mayor is Mr. Werner Pick, who is looking forward to welcoming many visitors September and celebrating the community's anniversary.

Events will start with a Catholic Mass Sept. 16 at 7 p.m. The Herforst Caecilia Church Choir will perform during the Mass. The festival will officially open 8 p.m. at the community hall with opening speaches, musical entertainment by the Herforst music association, dialect song performances by Silvia Nels and the opening of a painting exhibition.

Activities continue Sept. 17 at 2 p.m. with the opening of numerous historical displays and performances throughout the streets of Herforst.

Sunday's activities feature additional displays at 10 a.m. in various areas of the community.

Throughout the day visitors can enjoy music, historical performances, story readings by local authors, various arts and crafts, historical childrens' games, homemade Eifel specialties, an ancient wedding celebration, bow shooting and much more. Most activities take place either on one of the two stages that will be set up, in the community hall and in the streets throughout the center of town.

There is a small entry fee that visitors will have to pay to get into the festival area.
