Members of the 606th Air Control Squadron here deployed to various locations in support of Operation New Dawn recently.

While the unit deployed to several different locations, they all share the same mission to work as a control and reporting center.

These centers ensure tactical command and control of airborne assets by identifying and reporting out of the ordinary air traffic keeping service members both in the air and on the ground safe and mission capable for Operation New Dawn.

"We have a direct impact on the mission," said Airman 1st Class Ryan Gonzalez Delvalle, 606th ACS surveillance technician."We provide air support, so pilots can provide continuous air support to ground commanders. Without our job, troops on the ground wouldn't get the proper air support in a timely manner."

During this deployment, this squadron also has the potential to become a part of history--again.

"We were the first air control squadron to enter Iraq in 2003, and we might have the opportunity to be the last to leave," said Lt. Col. Justin Hickman, 606th ACS commander.
