The voluntary recall of 93 percent ground beef with expiration dates of Oct. 7-9 announced by Defense Commissary Agency Europe officials recently, does not include beef sold at the commissaries here or Bitburg Annex.

"None of the recalled beef was sent to Spangdahlem or Bitburg's Commissaries," said Paula Bennett, Spangdahlem Commissary store director.

According to a U.S. Air Forces in Europe release, some packages may contain small green elastic particles. The products affected are the 1 lb, 1.5 lbs and 4-count patties of 93 percent ground beef.

The recall is only precautionary, and no one has been reported sick, Bennett said.

"Because the expiration date has passed, customers should not have beef with these expiration dates in their refrigerator," said Christopher Kurtz, Spangdahlem Commissary store administrator. "However, if customers have frozen beef with these expiration dates and are concerned, they can bring the product back to the commissary for a full refund."

For more information about the voluntary recall, call the Spangdahlem Commissary at DSN 452-6012 or the Bitburg Commissary at DSN 452-9135.
