Restricted area and flightline workers here are required to have a new line badge by March 15.

The 52nd Security Forces Squadron Pass and Registration office is issuing the new line badges because the office is switching from a contracted issuing system to a system managed by U.S. Air Forces in Europe.

The USAFE system streamlines the line-badge issuing process with new badges that save the Air Force money, said Kelli Kechter, 52nd SFS Pass and Registration supervisory security assistant.

Kechter said the new system is more user-friendly and less costly because it is maintained by USAFE and has no contract renewal fees. The line badges also went from costing 6 Euros per badge to 5 cents per badge, because the badges no longer require a proximity chip, which was used on keypad systems no longer in use.

Anyone who misses the deadline for the badges won't be able to access the flightline or restricted areas. Security forces will apprehend people in restricted areas who don't have the new line-badge, she said.

"You don't want to get arrested by cops on the flightline," said Senior Airman Kyle Kottas, 52nd SFS physical security manager. "If they apprehend you, it takes time out of everyone's [day] - time that could have been used to accomplish the mission and get jets in the air."

Not having a line badge also affects others' time, because if someone who is required to have a badge doesn't have one, they have to be escorted by someone who does - taking the escort away from his or her primary mission and duties, Kechter said.

Those in need of a new line badge must contact their squadron's security manager. After contacting their security manager, flightline and restricted area workers must go to the pass and registration office in room 208 of Bldg. 207 to receive their new badge.

The pass and registration office is open from 7:30 a.m. - 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and can be reached at DSN 452-5930 or 06565-61-5930.
