Daryl Knee 52nd Fighter Wing Public Affairs SPANGDAHLEM AIR BASE, Germany -- The Air Force will conduct an enlisted date-of-separation rollback in late September as it continues to meet congressionally mandated end strength and budgetary requirements. This is the second DOS rollback program in fiscal year 2012, and the intent is to accelerate the separation date for members of rank E-1 through E-8 who have less than 14 or more than 20 years of service by Sept. 29. Identified Airmen must separate no later than Sept. 29 or retire no later than Sept. 30. Airmen meet a certain criteria or receive a specific identifier for program eligibility if, for example, they have an unfavorable information file, are on a control roster or have denied retainability. However, unit commanders make the final decision to deny reenlistment or retain a selected Airman. This force management tool allows local commanders, not the Air Force Personnel Center, to look at their Airmen and weigh potential benefits of an Airman's continued service, said Tech. Sgt. Tiwanda Wilson, 52nd Force Support Squadron Military Personnel Section NCO in charge of relocations. "Take care of yourself in all Air Force aspects," Wilson said to Airmen who fear they may be eligible for involuntary separation. "Keep busy and do something positive in your free time, and stay in tune with your Air Force career. Get educated on your benefits." The Air Force will not recoup unearned portions of education assistance funds, special pay, unearned portions of bonuses or other monetary incentives under the DOS rollback program. Airmen with at least 180 days of active-duty service who are separated under the DOS rollback are also authorized transition assistance benefits. Those include 180 days of extended medical care for themselves and their families and an ID card allowing base commissary and exchange privileges for two years. Tech. Sgt.
