Fifty-four Bitburg High School seniors received their diplomas at the high school's 58th annual graduation ceremony, which took place in Hangar 1 here June 9.

All of the class' students graduated this year with approximately 40 students continuing to college in the fall.

Every student who was accepted to college also received a scholarship or some form of financial aid. Students were awarded scholarships for academic merit, sports or Air Force ROTC while other students enlisted in the Air Force prior to graduation, said Jennifer Heinen, BHS 10th- and 12th-grade guidance counselor.

Michael Laue, BHS football and wrestling coach and guest speaker at the ceremony, spoke to the students about preparing and executing their goals and plans for the future.

The students also heard speeches from the class valedictorian and salutatorian before turning their tassels.

"This year's graduation was held in the hangar to highlight the role the military has played in the students' lives, and deployed parents were able to watch their student graduate via live webcast on graduation day," said Jennifer Ramos, 52nd Mission Support Group school liaison officer.
