Name: Staff Sgt. Daniel Wanhala

Unit: 702nd Munitions Support Squadron

Duty title: NCO in charge of training

Hometown: Tigard, Ore.

Years in Service: Ten and a half years.

Why joined: I joined to venture out on my own, serve my country and gain experience as a military police officer.

Family: I've been married to Kim for five years and have one son named Raylan who is 1 year old.

Hobbies: I enjoy reading, learning World War II history and studying famous U.S. political figures' lives.

Favorite aspect of job: Being able to train newly assigned service members on the daily operations of our jobs here at Buechel. Also, broadening the experience level of our assigned Airmen in the overall responsibilities of the security forces career field.

Most memorable Air Force experience: Knowing that my best friend Nicholas was still alive after being wounded by a roadside bomb -- I was able to coordinate a medical evacuation for him, saving his life.

How do you make responsible choices: By knowing I am required to lead my Airmen by setting the example for them.
