In order to better align field and company grade officer authorizations with operational requirements, Air Force maintenance operations squadrons, excluding ballistic missile maintenance, are inactivating before the end of this fiscal year.

"This will preserve the mission while eliminating the field grade and company grade officer position because of the shortfall," said 2nd Lt. John McKinney, 52nd Maintenance Operations Flight commander.

In accordance with this force restructure, the 52nd MOS is inactivating June 13 after which it will fall under the 52nd Maintenance Group staff as maintenance operations.

"It's more of reorganization than an inactivation ... performance and capabilities will not degrade," McKinney said. "It will be essentially the same functions we take care of right now, just under different leadership organization."

The 52nd MXG maintenance operations will continue the 52nd MOS' current functions, which include: quality assurance, plans and scheduling, the engine management branch, the maintenance operations center, maintenance analysis, the maintenance training flight, the weapons and standardization section, and programs management.

McKinney said reorganizing professional development requirements and enlisted performance reports will take time to adjust, but the 52nd MOS is preparing now by conducting weekly meetings for the upcoming inactivation.
