Members from the 52nd Medical Group came together for a table-top exercise regarding the plan for COVID-19 vaccine disbursement at Spangdahlem Air Base, Germany, December 1, 2020.

The table-top exercise was designed to bring medical and non-medical specialties together in a collaborative environment to foster medical readiness in preparation for receipt of the COVID-19 vaccine.

“The complexities of this vaccine are vast, requiring strong collaboration between base agencies and medics,” said 2nd Lt. Darryl Scarver, 52nd Medical Support Squadron, medical readiness flight commander. “This table-top exercise provided participants with an opportunity to assess preparedness, plans, and capabilities for vaccine storage and mass prophylaxis at Spangdahlem AB, Germany.”

During the exercise, participants identified limiting factors and consolidated lessons learned for Air Force Medical Readiness that could lead to a more successful implementation of vaccine distribution across the Air Force.

“Today’s tabletop exercise was a successful demonstration of collaboration and cross talk that will be integral as preparation to receive the vaccine progresses,” said Scarver.

The Department of Defense COVID-19 vaccine roll-out plan will implement a standardized and coordinated strategy for prioritizing, distributing, and administering COVID-19 vaccines to protect our people, maintain readiness, and support the national COVID-19 response.
