Two castles, embedded in beautiful nature are admired year-round by many visitors of the Eifel region. Once a year, one of the two castles, the Niederburg or lower castle becomes the site for a popular event, the Manderscheid medieval castle festival. During the annual event, knights on horses will battle with lances and swords, with bows and spears. The jousting tournaments are always among the highlights of the annual event as well as the fireworks display, scheduled for 10:15 p.m., Aug. 27.
