The library here is scheduled to close Jan. 30 - Feb. 20 for a floor repair and carpet replacement project.

Cardholders will not be able to check out any hard-copy books or media inside the library during the closure. However, e-service availability and library-staff support continues until the re-opening.

The library staff will relocate to room 216 in the base education center, located in Bldg. 129. Card creation and virtual outprocessing support will continue, and the dropbox located near the library entrance will remain open for books only.

"The library services are an integral part of the development of our wing -- for our Airmen to achieve their highest potential," said Ellick Ruffin, 52nd Force Support Squadron Force Development Flight chief. "Uninterrupted availability of the services we provide will ensure continuity in the deliverance of these services to the Spangdahlem community."

Cardholders who check out any books, CDs or DVDs now will have their late-turn-in fee waived until the re-opening. This gives the member a chance to acquire any documents not offered by the library e-services.

"Unlike the states, our community cannot simply go off base and get the same services," said Mohammed Khan, library director. "That's why it's so important for us to have this continuity."

Members can find e-Services at the U.S. Air Forces in Europe library website. E-books, audiobooks, Air Force Chief of Staff books, MP3 audiobooks, videos and music are available. To access the e-services:
- Visit http://www.usafelibraries.org.
- Go to the blue 'Programs and Services' bar at the top of the page.
- Scroll down to 'Overdrive Downloadable Books.'
- Open 'Overdrive' and browse contents.
- To check out materials, click on 'Login' bar at the top of the page.
- In 'Login' box, type "USAFE library."
- The account number is the member's library card number.

Other base wireless networks are available in lieu of the library computer lab: the Brick House in Bldg. 124; Kuhl Beans in Bldg. 42; Eifel Lanes Bowling Center in Bldg. 300; Club Eifel in Bldg. 500; and the Airman and Family Readiness Center in Bldg. 307.

"We strive to provide the best service possible for our Airmen and families," said Maj. Cat Logan, 52nd Force Support Squadron commander. "By teaming with [civil engineers] and contracting, we are able to make improvements -- such as replacing carpet in the library -- to provide the best services and facilities possible."
